HOTELS

So you’ve decided to go to Munich for Oktoberfest so everything else is secondary, right? Wrong. Where you stay is one of the most important decisions of your trip. So before reading our review, here are a few misconceptions about Munich and Oktoberfest.

I’ll just show up and find a hotel.
Bring a tent because you’ll be sleeping outside. Over 6 million people come to Oktoberfest, many of whom made hotel reservations. Whether or not you travel with us (and after visiting our website you will do the smart thing and book a Spyns tour by calling 1.888.825.4720), you should book your hotel room at least 6 months in advance.

I just want a cheap, comfortable hotel.
“Cheap” during Oktoberfest is around US$340/night. Most hotels will charge between $400-$700/night for standard double rooms. Why? Because demand far outstrips supply. With 6 million people fighting for bedspace, the hotels can charge whatever they want.

I want to stay near the fair grounds.
No problem, but hotel rates are high. Many of the cheap US$340/per night hotels are very small, budget and over priced. It’s worth spending a little extra and getting something in the 4 star range, or alternatively staying near the city centre or train station where for the same price, you get a far better quality hotel. The train station is a 15min walk from the fair grounds, while the city centre is a 25min walk. Click

Pros :Location, location, location. A very nice tidy hotel with all the amenities that a seasoned traveller likes.

Le Meridien Munich*****

Rooms :380

Ground Distance :15 minutes walking

Location :Le Meridien is opposite the front doors to Munich’s main train station. For clients wanting to see a bit more of Munich than just the Oktoberfest fairgrounds, this hotel is centrally located between the tents and the historical city center (both within an easy walk on flat ground). As with most major European train stations, the area around them is not always the most desirable, therefore be prepare to walk past a few kebab and sex shops during your stay.

Recommend For :Clients 35+ who enjoy the finer details of hotels. Relax and enjoy the spa, swimming pool, fitness room and in-house cocktail bar.

Pros :As you would expect for a hotel of this price and standard; the service, food, and comfort is excellent. It also has great air-conditioning (this can be hard to find in Europe).

Cons :Be prepared to pay high prices for wifi (US$30 per day) with no free wifi in the lobby.
